PHOSPHORUS
REMOVAL IN SOLIDS
FILTER HSAF ®
The F.L.I. Brightwater HSAF® solids filtration
variant combined with chemical dosing can form a very efficient
final stage P-removal process. Municipal wastewater typically contains 5 to 20 mg/l of
inorganic and
organic Phosphorus compounds. These can be reduced to 0.5-1.0mg/l by
dosing Calcium, Ferrous or Aluminium salts at a ratio of 1.5-2.5
mole/mole followed by removal of precipitated solids using HSAF. Ferrous salts, upon combination with Phosphates, release
Hydrogen Ions
and so may need pH adjustment if the natural alkalinity is
insufficient. The use of plastic media of HSAF® gives
significant cost and space
benefits together with a simple plc controlled operational mode. The
media based process reduces the size of tanks required whilst greatly
enhancing removal efficiency producing an optimal low cost option. For
the high effluent quality required under AMP5 this advanced plastic
media based process option can be applied at any scale and offers a
reliable and cost effective solution for P removal. For more details about the HSAF® family and its
biological treatment capabilities, please click on the page links above
